Story so far:

The Shu group began their travels together on a mission to investigate trouble in the slums of Jiang Yang. After obtaining some information from a street urchin (for a hefty price), the group assaulted a slum stronghold, “accidentally” killing a member of Liu Bei’s court. Among this court member’s documents was a report insinuating some shady dealings with a group outside of town, primarily weapons smuggling. The group investigated only to find remnants of the Yellow Turbans attempting some ritual. As the fight wore on, the street urchin from before joined the fight and turned the tides quickly. A member of the Turbans was captured (Dong Bao) and interrogated, and the group was eventually interrogated as well by the Liu Bei and the mystic Zuo Ci before being thrown in jail.

The group was released from jail by the street urchin, now known to be Fei Pa. In their escape, the jail came under attack by members of Cao Cao’s army. In the ensuing fight, a nephew of Xiahou Dun was killed. Xiahou Dun himself arrived, only to be thwarted by Guan Yu.

Liu Bei was then forced from his home, and he protected the peasants in their escape. However, Cao Cao caught up with them at Chang Ban. The group fought valiantly to protect the peasants, even from Li Dian and some of his lackeys. They eventually fled to the ships right before Xiahou Dun and Xu Zhu arrived.

Once safely away, Liu Bei enlisted the group to help find a hermit named Zhuge Liang. After fighting a wild man and several dire tigers and bears, the hermits hut was found and Liu Bei was brought to the hermit. After three visits, the hermit was recruited as well. His immediate proposal was to make an alliance with the Sun family in order to defeat Cao Cao’s incoming navy.

Beginning of the Wu Campaign

The characters were introduced to each other and brought together for a mission by the prefect of Wu Hu. A nearby stronghold (Wu Xu Wu) had gone silent and strange happenings had been reported in the vicinity. The heroes (Bang Mi the Dragonborn Paladin, Lau Chun the Sorcerer, and You Shang the Human Monk) were instructed to depart for Mu Xi in order to collect information from the prefect there. With a small band of relatively new soldiers, the heroes set out to determine what actions needed to take place.

Once they arrived in Mu Xi, they were met at the gates by an officer of the city: Geng Su, the Longtooth Shifter Runepriest. She informed the group that most of the leaders of this city had either been called away or had disappeared while trying to discover the source of the troubles in the surrounding lands, leaving her as the highest ranking officer left. She also led them to believe that the people in the outlying areas of Wu Xu Wu had been disappearing as well with no traces. After gathering a most of her more remaining troops (bringing the total number of troops to just over 100), everyone set out for Wu Xu Wu.

After arriving, a quick survey of the town showed that the outlying areas were in fact deserted, and a stench came from the city itself. Geng Su informed everyone that there were basically 3 ways to enter the city: a storm drain that would bring them inside the city walls on the western side of the keep, the gatehouse at the northern gates would allow them to slip inside relatively quietly, or an open assault on the western gates. The south and east walls were surrounded by a thick forest and almost impossible to assault.

Once some deliberation had been done, it was decided to use the northern gatehouse to slip themselves into the city, using their remaining troops to cause a commotion at the west gates to keep the . Once inside, the heroes did notice a stench coming from the keep, but the town itself was completely empty except for a number of strange humanoids patrolling a pair of archer towers and the northern wall of the keep. Upon closer inspection, they also found a pair of hunting birds that seemed to be on patrol in the area, as well as 4 frog-like demons wandering aimlessly around the grounds near the entrance of the keep.

Although they tried to sneak up on the demons, one of the hawks spotted the paladin and raised alarm. You Shang jumped to the roof and faced off against the hawks, slowly whittling them down to nothing with the help of a few blasts from Lau Chun. Bang Mi and Geng Su faced off against the frog demons. Although the hawks fell quickly enough, the frog demons proved difficult to kill and allowed the humanoids on the roof to belch several balls of bile onto the party. Eventually, however, the party prevailed and entered the keep.

Once inside the courtyard of the keep, the party found an altar covered with the bodies of dead Wu soldiers. A single demon waited by the door to the keep proper. As they approached, he beckoned them to fight, causing thunder to crash around him. When the party’s eyes refocused, a number of thunder elementals were waiting for them, along with two animated training dummies. Again, even though the thunder elementals exploded on their deaths, the party prevailed easily.

Once inside the keep proper, the party found a number of enemies awaiting them: a pair of thunder elementals, a pair of upright-walking wolves in cloaks, a demonic swordsman, and a purple-winged female demon with pink skin sitting upon a throne of bone. Lau Chun’s arcane abilities saw through the mesh of magic and perversion and determined that the demonic swordsman was indeed the previous prefect. However, as the fight began, it became obvious that they were not able to negotiate and he was eventually struck down. On his death, the woman vanished through a portal and was gone. The other enemies fell in due time.

In the aftermath, Bang Mi and Geng Su searched the throneroom and outer courtyard, piling the dead bodies onto the altar before performing a religious ritual to send them on their way. You Shang and Lau Chun searched the keep and found an arcane anchor that allowed the demoness to move to and from the keep. After Lau Chun transcribed all the details of the anchor into a ritual book, the anchor was destroyed. In the prefect’s personal quarters, a number of effects suggested that everything changed when the demoness arrived and wooed the prefect. However, all accounts suggested that monsters overran the city only after the citizens had departed. One account suggested that some of the refugees may have fled east.

The party left the abandoned city and returned to Geng Su’s home to leave her there. Once back in their own home, they were allowed to explain the situation to Zhou Yu himself. Once he was satisfied with their recount of the events, he gave them a new assignment: investigate an ancient ritual ground to the north, a possible destination of the refugees of Wu Xu Wu. After only minimal rest, the party again moved to investigate the strange happenings.

The Ritual Grounds

Upon arrival, the group found that the trees in the area had been decimated by some disease or power that could not easily been explained. Their usual colors had been replaced by burned, decay-ridden bare branches. Upon closer inspection, the group saw a large magical dome in the distance. As they approached, the party was assaulted by a group of demons from another plane. Closer inspection suggested they were running away from something, but they engaged anyway.

The party split with Bang Mi going north and You Shang the monk going east. Lau Chun attempted to cover them, but the enemies were slowly whittling down the group. At a dire moment, Geng Su arrived with healing and added support, turning the tide and allowing the group to emerge victorious.

As they approached the dome, it could be seen that many footprints led to this ritual site, but just as many led away in every direction. It was impossible to tell which ones belonged to the monsters and which could have belonged to other Wu denizens, though the group felt certain that a number of them had fled east. As they began to leave, the magical dome dropped and a young robed boy beckoned them to discuss the findings. With the boy were two other cloaked figures: a man and a woman. However, negotiations quickly broke down, and after being angered, the cloaked figures revealed themselves to be Nu Wa, Fu Xi, and Taigong Wang. After a quick yet brutal fight, the mystics called a cease fire and congratulated the group on their determination. After some more discussing, the group obtained an old, magical scroll.

After returning to their home, again leaving Geng Su behind, they discussed their future with the mystics, Zhou Yu, and Zhuge Liang. After much discussing, it was decided that the group would split their duties between working for Wu and working for the mystics. However, both groups had the same objective in the near future: the Battle of Chi Bi!
